Never have we seen a song and its music video have so many similarities and differences at the same time as Ed Sheeran’s new single “A Little More” from his upcoming album ‘Play.’ The song combines the power of two gingers for ultimate storytelling and a heartbreak experience.
“A Little More” lyrics serve as a dive into the mind of a heartbroken lover. Ed Sheeran is attempting to move on from a toxic relationship, and he seems to hold a lot of resentment. He keeps scratching his brain for answers, blaming himself for being a fool, and hating her for dragging him through the mud all these years. These thoughts only seem to help him build more and more hate.
“A Little More” is the fourth single from Ed Sheeran’s upcoming studio album ‘Play.’ The single was released on August 8, 2025, following hit singles from the album such as “Azizam,” “Old Phone,” and “Sapphire.” The album is expected to be released on September 12, 2025.
Listen to “A Little More” by Ed Sheeran
The music video for “A Little More” is absolute cinema. The video enlists Harry Potter star Rupert Grint as an obsessed fan of Ed Sheeran. It has also been 14 years since Rupert Grint playing an obsessed fan of Ed Sheeran in the “Lego House” music video by Ed Sheeran from his debut studio album in 2011. The visuals take us through Rupert Grint stan over Ed Sheeran, even to a dangerous degree, eventually find love elsewhere (played by Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel). But it was not the end of it all–Ed Sheeran creeps up in Rupert’s head even more.
On Instagram, Ed Sheeran penned a heartfelt message to Rupert Grint and Nathalie Emmanuel for their contribution to this music video;
“It’s such a fun, bonkers video. Longest video shoot I had ever done at that time, and deffo the most costume changes. Shout out to @emilnava for always bringing my mad ideas to life. And @nathalieemmanuel too for being amazing. Rupert, my brother from another mother, thank you for throwing yourself into this, it wouldn’t exist had you said no.”
Ed Sheeran “A Little More” Lyrics Review and Song Meaning
The lyrics of the song are way darker than the music video. In the aftermath of a nasty breakup, Ed Sheeran harbors anger and hatred towards a person he once loved.
In the first verse of the song, Ed Sheeran seems to negate the blame for their messy relationship. She says that he ruined his life–which is an absolutely horrific thing to say to your partner to begin with. Ed Sheeran seems to think that she came pre-packaged, broken, and ruined, and he had nothing to do with that.
Their breakup was as messy as their relationship. The fallout was so bad that they couldn’t even take the high road to wish each other a happy life ahead.
“Life got better when I lost you“
In the second verse of the song, Ed Sheeran airs his frustration on things that he endured during their relationship. He was always the shoulder to lean on when things went wrong for her. He was the scapegoat for her frustrations. When life got harder, Ed Sheeran was the one who had to carry the weight for her.
Ed also reassures that there is no mending hearts or building bridges between them. Hatred is the name of the game as it stands now.
This is no way to live for anyone. Ed Sheeran admits it himself “I wish I didn’t care this much, but I do.”
