Ellie Goulding is the latest celebrity to cover the song and she did a unique work on it. The eerie sounds on the original track has been stripped down, and the Ellie Goulding version is light on music (electric music) and gives prominence to vocals.

The emotional aspect of the song has reduced, in my opinion. Hozier has an amazing vocal range and he uses it perfectly emphasize the important points and although Ellie Goulding’s attempt is commendable, it’s not quite there. Ellie Goulding reaches high pitches but they are not as powerful as Hozier’s. It has something to do with Hozier’s deep voice and Ellie’s sultry voice. It’s not a sound judgement to compare the original and the cover version. So we leave it to you to decide if she did a good job, and when you do make up your mind, do notify us in a comment.
