Rihanna is back with some new music for us, however, barely so. It has been too long since we heard new music from Rihanna, and we will take whatever singular verses we can get.
‘Smurfs’ is an upcoming live-action animated movie (2024) based on ‘The Smurfs’ comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo. Rihanna has a voice acting role in the movie as Smurfette. Other notable stars in the cast are James Corden, John Goodman, Nick Offerman, Kurt Russell, and Sandra Oh. The expected release date of the movie is July 18, 2025.
“Friend of Mine” is Rihanna’s contribution to the upcoming ‘Smurfs’ movie and she has a singular verse on the 3-minute 25-second length track. The dance track is more for us to dance along with rather than sing along. In the music video for the song, Rihanna makes a brief appearance in a smurfy forest carrying a sunflower umbrella before she vanishes into a mushroom house, giving way to the Smurfs to take over the dance track.

In the lyrics to the song, Rihanna sings about the ‘zing’ between friends. Some friendships can form seemingly out of nothing and instantaneously making it look like they have known each other for a lifetime.
