G-Eazy – Hittin Licks (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)
G-Eazy released his latest EP ‘Scary Nights’ on November 8, 2019, and this has been a follow-up to his multiple EP series ‘B-Sides’ released early this year. “Hittin Licks” is the sixth track on the 8-track project by the Bay Area rapper.
G-Eazy released a brand new music video for “Hittin Licks” on the same day the album premiered and these visuals take us back to the 80s. Directed by Daniel CZ, the music video shows a cinematic storyline of a cop going bad because of a murderous female felon. It’s a tale as old as the times.
UrbanDictionary defines ‘hit a lick’ as “to gain a sh*t load of money in a short amount of time.” Hence, the song is a true dedication to the Bonnie-and-Clyde type of relationship. Watch the music video below.
The video for “Hittin Licks” shows a woman murdering her husband and trying to cover her tracks. Somehow she becomes the main suspect for the crime and gets questioned by the detective played by G-Eazy. In the interrogation room, the woman vexes the detective, and he ends up sneaking in her the jail key for her escape. They rendezvous outside the police and make their escape into foreverness. The noir-type video with some good acting is definitely worth the watch.
The lyrics to the song talk about all the ‘fun’ they would have together living the crooked life. Hitting the road, travelling the world, doing things to earn a quick buck, shopping in high-end retail stores and possibly having kids together are some of the activities in G-Eazy’s itinerary.
In the second verse, G-Eazy does name drop ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ being one of the most famous couples known for their robbing spree. The term usually resonates with couples who stick together through thick and thin and are down for anything for love. These names are also closely associated with Eminem’s hit “’97 Bonnie and Clyde.” This reference could also be a hint at G-Eazy’s collab with Halsey on “Him & I” released whilst they were dating in 2017.
G-Eazy goes on to rap that he will provide anything and everything to keep his partner happy. Rolex watches, Chanel clothing, Cartier jewellery, and 2000 roses from one of the most exclusive florists Venus ET Fleur.
