“test drive” is one of the five new tracks released off of Ariana Grande’s ‘Positions’ album deluxe version. Throughout the song, Ariana Grande compares her relationship to a test drive of a new vehicle; but for her, she is sold on this relationship.
Ariana Grande released the deluxe version of her 2020 ‘Positions’ album on February 19, 2020, including the infamous “34+35 (remix)” with Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. The deluxe edition has four brand new tracks on the album.
All of the songs on the ‘Positions’ album come from Ariana Grande being in a good place in her relationships, unlike the predecessor album ‘thank u, next.’ “test drive” originates from a similar place where she is comfortable in her relationship and has little to no worries about feeling secure.
Listen to “test drive” by Ariana Grande
Baby, I’m sold on you, so I don’t ever gotta
Tеst drive nothin’
Ariana Grande sings about giving the keys to her car to her lover. This is rather more symbolic than real-life. She hints that she is resting her future in his hands because she knows he is the one and she will be in safe hands. Ariana Grande is so comfortable about this decision that she might even recline her seat, lay back, and close her eyes giving full navigation rights to her partner.
Test driving a vehicle before one buys it is almost a mandatory part of the purchasing process to ensure you are making the right choice. When it comes to relationships, ‘dating’ can be termed as the test drive phase. Unless either of them defines their relationship, they do have a relatively easy-out of the relationship if things don’t seem to work out. This can be a crucial part of any relationship to get to know each other better. For Ariana Grande to think that she does not need a test drive phase or that she is over the test drive phase suggests that she has high faith in this person.
High faith can be bad too.
