Drake – Girls Want Girls Ft. Lil Baby | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“Girls Want Girls” is the third track on Drake’s 2021 album ‘Certified Lover Boy.’ The song features vocals by Lil Baby, a frequent collaborator of Drake. The song looks like an ode to all the bisexual or homosexual girls, while praising them and boasting about their sexual exploits. However, in reality, the song feeds into the male fantasy of bisexual women.

‘Certified Lover Boy’ is the highly-anticipated sixth studio album by Drake, released on September 3, 2021. Drake talked about the album in July; “we aim for that head. We don’t aim to please. Certified Lover Boy on the way. And that’s for anyone in the way.” This is his follow-up project to his 2018 album ‘Scorpion.’

In the song, Drake specifically pays homage to the girls from his city–Toronto. Lil Baby shouts out to T-Pain’s song “My Girl Got a Girlfriend” from 2019, which touches on the same topic. In both these songs, the artists feed into the male fantasy of women-on-women action.

Drake “Girls Want Girls” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

Chorus

Drake raps about staring at a girl’s dress because it is see-through. He wants a piece of that. But she is a lesbian.

When Drake said;

Yeah, say that you a lesbian, girl, me too

We lost our words. However, the idea could be that this girl is into girls and so is Drake. This does not make Drake a lesbian, but rather a heterosexual. But who are we to argue Drake!

Verse 1

In the first verse of the song, Drake sings about his come-up in the industry. He realizes that he is at the top of the game right now and everything he has achieved, he had to work for. Nothing was handed on a silver platter to him. These stresses do get to him at times. So he apologizes to any of his fans who might have come across him on a bad day.

In the latter part of his verse, Drake turns his attention towards the theme of the song. He raps about the girls who want girls. Drake says that these girls play hard to get but at the end of the day texts him “I need to see you.”

Verse 2

Lil Baby starts his verse with a nod to the T-Pain hit “My Girl Got a Girlfriend.” Next, he talks about wanting women who look curvy and fine. He goes as far as to say that if the gym doesn’t work, go get surgery and he will pay the expenses.

In the latter part of the verse, Lil Baby settles into the theme of the song and asks his girlfriend to bring her girlfriend too when coming to see him. He knows that girls make girls feel a different way sexually and he promises to live up to that expectation. Not a clue how Lil Baby is going to play the part of a female sexually, but we admire the ambition.

  1. Hahahaha. Love this article!
    Being a girl, I can’t wouch for any other girl. But this song seems as accurate a portrayal of a girl’s needs and sexuality, as maybe the adult industry xD. I get that their audience is teens and adolescents or whatever and they’re just selling sex and trying to stay relevant. But this song isn’t about lesbians or bi-sexual women or straight women. It’s just feeding the existing male fantasy of having multiple girls in bed. Perhaps the title should’ve been “boys want girls that want girls.”

    1. That makes a lot of sense actually. We will change the article on this POV.
      Thank you for your thoughts.
