Dua Lipa just kick started a brand new era with a brand new song and a music video to complete it. “Houdini” is set to be the doorway for Dua Lipa’s third studio album. The song, announced on Harry Houdini’s death anniversary, the song speaks about Dua’s disappearing act when she sees no future in a relationship.
Erich Weisz, known as Harry Houdini, was a Hungarian-American escape artist, illusionist, and stunt performer, well-known for his escape acts. Dua Lipa made the announcement of her new song on the 97th anniversary of the death of Harry Houdini on October 31, 1926.
In the release notes of the song, Dua Lipa further explained the meaning behind the song; “This was the first track I wrote about that fun and freeing time of being single. The lyrics are a bit cheeky, but there is a real underlying message of understanding yourself deeply and having no guilt about knowing your self-worth. Sometimes you just have to pull a Houdini and leave a situation that’s no longer serving you.”
The music video for “Houdini” shows Dua Lipa dancing away to the song in a dance studio. The mirror in the studio at times breaks free from reflecting Dua Lipa’s dances and forms its own illusion.
