The Chainsmokers – “Don’t Let Me Down” Ft. Daya (Lyrics Review)

Now that you are properly acquainted with the song, we will get into some lyrics analysis the best way I can.

Daya starts off the song slowly;

Crashing, hit a wall
Right now I need a miracle
Hurry up now, I need a miracle
Stranded, reaching out
I call your name but you’re not around
I say your name but you’re not around

In a glance we can figure out that “Don’t Let Me Down” is a post-breakup song and the singer is the one feeling broken.

She says she hit a wall, which means she is unable to move forward in her life. Since this is post-breakup, she is talking about a mental barrier where she feels lost without him. She cannot believe what has happened to her, but she knows she needs a miracle to get him back.

Chorus of the song takes a more different tune and the song switches to EDM.

I need you, I need you, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
I think I’m losing my mind now
It’s in my head, darling I hope
That you’ll be here, when I need you the most
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
D-Don’t let me down

This is a cry by Daya having to deal with the harsh reality that he is not coming back. But she is in denial, she calls out for him and asks not to let her down, which is a mute question in my opinion. In her head she is building the scenario of their reunion, but that will be restricted to her imagination.

Much of the lyrics takes a similar form in the entire song, with the small exception mentioned below;

Running out of time
I really thought you were on my side
But now there’s nobody by my side

This verse too emphasizes on how she was madly in love with him and never saw the end coming. She believed he would be by his time until the end of time and now she feels lost and broken.

“Don’t Let Me Down” is a catchy song which has had immense commercial success as well. In most of the countries, the song went Platinum and in a few it went 4× Platinum, which is pretty decent.

“Don’t Let Me Down” is a good fusion of EDM and Trap music which would have aided the success it has had over several months continuously. Let us know what you think about this song.
