Lil Nas X will milk his breakthrough hit “Old Town Road” (Remix) with Billy Ray Cyrus untill it can’t be milked no more.
“Old Town Road” born out of pop culture and the remix born out of controversy, is holding strong at #01 on Billboard Hot 100 chart for 6 weeks and counting now. The song gained momentum when it was dubbed over footage of the popular video game Red Dead Redemption 3 released this year. The song also got dropped from Country music chart by Billboard which led to the feature with Billy Ray Cyrus and the song has been unstoppable since.
A week back Lil Nas X also released a video of what “Old Town Road” lyrics would look like in emojis. The video was a hit again. And now comes the movie version featuring Chris Rock, Haha Davis, Rico Nasty, Diplo, Jozzy, Young Kio, and Vince Staples. The video runs for over 5 minutes.
The movie is action-packed as it starts off with a horse chase. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus are being chased down the ‘old town road’ by three horsemen, two of them being Chris Rock and Haha Davis. This is in 1889. The three horsemen give up the chase at one point and Chris Rock states; “when you see a Black man on a horse going that fast, you just gotta let him fly.”
Billy Ray Cyrus and Lil Nas X try to seek refuge at a house in the ‘old town’ and shortly gets chased away by gunshots from the homeowner. Lil Nas X jumps into a nearby cave and lands on the modern-day ‘old town road’ in 2019. The song kicks off from this point.
Billy and Nas X wander through the modern world in their cowboy outfits and horses. A nicer fusion of 1889 and 2019 comes in when Lil Nas X decides to race his real horse (apparently with a V12 engine) with a horse-power engined car. Nas X wins the race.
Billy Ray Cyrus and Lil Nas X finds themselves in a dance class where everybody is learning their cowboy dances that day. Billy and Nas X perform their song there and everybody gets a good beat to kick their boots to. Diplo appears in this club as a music provider, also complete in a cowboy outfit.
At the end of the video, another cut-scene with Chris Rock and his fellow horsemen appear where they compliment Lil Nas X’s horse speed. “Faster than a bullet,” Chris Rock marvels. “Faster than the speed of a bullet with grease on it…”
