Travis Scott returns to music in 2019 with a brand new single and a video titled “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM.” His return to music is from his 2018 project ‘ASTROWORLD.’
In an interview with Zane Lowe, Scott explained the workings behind this new song; “I’m at the point where I’m just trying to cook up some dope shit and drop ‘Highest in the Room,’ and maybe put something around it.” In the same interview, Travis also teased about an upcoming album, but it will come in no rush. However, the good news is that there will be more new music dropping soon.
“Highest In The Room” supposedly seems to take on Travis’ relationship with his ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner, with whom he had a child with. Watch the music video below.
“Highest” is a reference to being high on drugs. By placing himself above all other stoners or druggies, Travis poses himself on a power position. The stuff that visualizes in the music video also suggests that the singer is experiencing hallucinations. However, Travis admits that he hopes to “make it outta here.”
In the first verse, Travis further elaborates on his druggie status and how it affects his life with his lover. At a glance, the girl can see his red eyes and realize that he is way beyond repair. The same verse also sings about his experience of love with her. He understands that her love is a lie, and realizing this, he is not ready to commit to her. There is no ‘forever after’ in this relationship for them.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott began dating in April 2017, shortly after her split with rapper Tyga. In September 2017 news spread that Kylie was expecting. Their daughter, Stormi, was born in February 2018. The multi-millionaire CEO Kylie Jenner announced the split with Scott in October 2019 and went on to Tweet that the split was mutual and peaceful.
In the second verse of “HIGHEST IN THE ROOM,” Travis suggests that there is no reunion for them after this split. He goes on to say that there is never a worry about who gets to keep what from this relationship. They were not married to be fighting over custody of anything, to begin with. Travis also seems to sober up when this reality hits him, as he sings “this not the molly, this the boot.”
