Taylor Swift – Peace | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“Peace” is the fifteenth track on Taylor Swift’s 2020 album ‘Folklore.’ The song talks about being there for her lover all the time, sometimes which would conceived as violating his ‘peace.’

Taylor Swift announced her 8th studio album ‘Folklore‘ just a few hours ahead of the album release on July 24, 2020. The album had no singles prior to the album release, and Taylor stated the reason for the ‘surprise’ album release as the “uncertainty” surrounding the world right now.

Taylor reminisces of her past relationships and how she has grown from those experiences to become a more rounded person that she is today. She also mentions that she would rather be happy in secret than have her personal life publicised all over the media.

“peace” Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

Verse 1

In the start of the song, Taylor admits that she is through the rough waters of her life. She is past the teenage years when she would cry and dwel over lost love. In her real life, Taylor Swift is currently in a long-term relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn.

‘Summer’ time has been a recurring phase throughout the ‘Folklore’ album. In this song, the mention of the season could be a reference to the ‘best time’ in her life. ‘Spring’ could be a reference to the previous eras such as ‘1989‘ or even ‘Speak Now.’

But she knows how fickle relationships are. Most of her previous relationships were put on a billboard by media. So she has been extra careful to keep the current one under the radar, which may have saved it thus far. She is aware that danger lurks in the corner. It makes her work extra hard to make her relationship work. Maybe, this might come out as an invasion of the peace of her lover. She apologizes for this!

Chorus

Taylor Swift claims herself to be a fire that will keep them alive. But all fires burn, everyone just needs to find the optimum burning point in every relationship.

Also she confesses that she would rather die for her man in secrecy than have it all published all over the world.

“The devil’s in the details” is an idiom meaning things may not be simple as they appear to be. A good exmple is a relationship–we may see the beautiful #couplegoals pictures on social media, but only the couple know what hard work it takes to develop the relationship.

Verse 2

In the second verse, Taylor Swift seems to give credits to her boyfriend. She praises his integrity and honor. She also promises to stand by his side, bear his children, and rain him in her sunshine.

But there’s robbers to the east, clowns to the west

The above lyric gives un an understanding of the mentality Taylor Swift has to constantly lock herself for her protection. She has to protect herself and her relationships from all these freaks and thieves around her.

Dating someone as big and influential as Taylor Swift is definitely going to come with some pitfalls. Taylor is aware of these and apologizes in advance. She knows that ‘rain’ is just around the corner. She prefers to enclose herself and her relationships from the outside world to shelter from this rain as much as possible.

To achieve all this, she might have to disturb his peace a little bit. Small sacrifice!
