Rapper NF teased his fans with a snippet of a new song captioning “This is one of those songs that may never see the light of day but I thought had a cool feel to it.” However, after the overwhelmingly positive reaction by the fans, a week later, we get the full track titled “Chasing_(Demo).” The track features vocals by Australian singer Mikayla Sippel.
The new song is the first release by NF in 2020, following his highly successful album ‘The Search’ released in July 2019, and “Paid My Dues” single released in December 2019.
On social media, NF talked about releasing the single;
I posted a clip the other day of a song and was honestly shocked at how much you guys liked it. Every project I do there are a couple of songs that I hold back or just don’t feel like work and this was most likely going to be one of those songs. A day or so after I posted the clip I heard a cover a fan did of it and I was blown away by it. Long story short, my producer Tommee and I took her audio and ended up finishing it for you guys! Thank you @mikaylasippel for letting us use your amazing voice and inspiring me to actually release it.

“Chasing_(Demo)” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
Chorus
NF posted the chorus of the song on social media on October 3, 2020, and the Aussie fan Mikayla Sippel posted her cover of this on her social media. Little did she know that this cover would earn her a collaboration with NF himself on the release of the track.
The lyrics to the chorus speak of the pain the singer experiences in their relationship. It is evident that they do not feel comfortable or safe in this relationship. For some reason, they are insecure about their flaws, which should not be an issue at all in a loving and tender relationship. The singer is regretting chasing this ‘love’ which turned out to be something else entirely.
Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, NF weighs in on this traumatizing experience he is going on in this relationship. The worst feeling is that he finds no ending to this misery. It is unclear why he cannot call it quits. But we have one hint in the lyrics; “Makin’ you cry makes me feel like a bad person.” Maybe she does not feel the same way as he does.
This toxic relationship has impacted the singer’s life and his perspective of things around him.
Verse 2
In these lyrics, the singer explains how this internal conflict has affected his life in general. His mind is not at peace. This impacts his other relationships such as friends and family, and not in a positive way either.
NF says that he said some hurtful things to his partner last week, which presumably made them cry. He despises seeing them cry too. But he also despises the mental torture he endures in trying to rectify everything.
The singer confesses that he tries so hard to digest this pain and keep moving on. But this never helps. It will keep burning him inside until the time it explodes all over. The end result will not be pretty.
