Lauv – Fake Ft. Conan Gray | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

Singers Lauv and Conan Gray join vocals for the brand new single titled “Fake.” The song, as titled, goes into a banter on fake friends and fake relationships and how neither of these artists have time for that.

Lauv talked about working with Conan Gray on the song; “We wrote ‘Fake’ the first time I met Conan and it’s one of my fav songs ever. I hope you love it.”

Conan Gray talked about the inspiration behind the song; “Lauv and I wrote ‘Fake’ while we were just hanging and ranting about those two faced people everybody knows. Those people who say one thing and do the other, people who constantly talk trash about their own friends. We wanted to make something fun you can scream in the car to, a song to flip a bird at those types of people.”

The song talks about fake people who are more commonly found all around us. One major characteristic of these people is their image that they build around them. Usually, this happens on social media, where they hide their real personalities behind a veil of beautiful photos and inspirational quotes.

The important thing to realize is that Lauv and Conan Gray does not expect anyone to be picture-perfect either. The singers would rather welcome a person with flaws and cracks and do not try to hide them. That is genuine. And that is not scary. Because we are all flawed in some way or the other.

In the verse by Conan Gray, he sings about fake partners who only express their love when they are drunk out of their minds. The next morning, when the high wears off, they go back to being the usual jerks they are. They lie through their teeth just to save their skin. These drunken love charades may also be a reference to Conan Gray’s song “Wish You Were Sober.”

Both artists say that they have no time for fake people like these. None of us do!
