Lil Nas X – DOLLA SIGN SLIME Ft. Megan Thee Stallion | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“Dolla Sign Slime” is the ninth track on Lil Nas X’s 2021 album ‘MONTERO.’ The song recruits rapper Megan Thee Stallion on the vocals, marking their first-ever collaboration together. In the song, both artists sing about their status in the game, having gained a lot of momentum in the industry in the past few years.

‘MONTERO’ is Lil Nas X’s debut studio album, a journey that started with his mega-hit “Old Town Road” in 2019. Nas X has released one mixtape and extended play since. However, the ‘MONTERO’ album is the singer’s ‘baby,’ which he teased for weeks with fake pregnant images of himself.

The title of the track is a reference to the riches Lil Nas X has been able to enjoy in his short-lived career. He burst to the scene with “Old Town Road” single which won Nas X two Grammys and earned the top spot on music charts across the world. He would have been rolling in green slime (money) since.

Lil Nas X “DOLLA SIGN SLIME” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

In the chorus of the song, Lil Nas X boasts about his expensive habits. He talks about his shopping sprees in the luxury retail chain Neiman-Marcus. When he goes to his bank, he clears his accounts. He can afford to do that because money keeps rolling in the next day.

In the first verse of the song, Lil Nas X predicts that his new album will be a hit like Michael Jackson’s iconic album ‘Thriller’ that was released in 1982. He talks about buying a new vehicle that is baby blue in color. Best of all, he is at the top of the music ladder, and he is only 22-years-old.

Lil Nas X also compares himself with the famous baseball player Babe Ruth, who has scored so many hits in his professional career. Nas X says he will have as many hit songs as Babe Ruth does in baseball.

Nas X also boasts that he is the one that is different from all the other artists in the industry. Being unique is always good in the entertainment industry.

In the second verse of the song, Megan Thee Stallion takes over. In her lyrics, she tackles a similar topic to Nas X. She claps back at her haters who did not believe in her. She has proven all of them wrong. She also has her body to boast about above her music success.

Megan says that her body is all-natural and has no prosthetics. All the haters secretly watch her for her body and hate her for her music. But they still stick around, because she is too irresistible.

At the end of her verse, Megan shouts out Eminem;

Baby, all these ho*s imitate me
You gon’ f*ck a Stan or the real Slim Shady?

This shoutout comes as a response to Eminem’s reference of Megan Thee Stallions hit track “Body” on Eminem’s “Killer (Remix)” released in May 2021. Megan references two of Eminem’s iconic tracks “Stan” and “The Real Slim Shady” in these lyrics. ‘Stan’ has become a cultural reference to fans of a celebrity or an idol. ‘The Real Slim Shady’ is a song where Eminem proves that there is only one Slim Shady and no others like him. Megan asks if you are going to be just a fan or the real thing!
