Machine Gun Kelly – twin flame | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

Machine Gun Kelly seems to be exploring his flaming love affair in the new track “twin flame” from his 2022 album ‘mainstream sellout.’ The moody melody talks about finding your other half, who perfectly mirrors you.

Machine Gun Kelly released his sixth studio album ‘mainstream sellout’ on March 25, 2022. This is the follow-up album to his previous project ‘Tickets to My Downfall’ (2020), which saw the rapper shifting gears in pop-punk and punk-rock music. The album landed well within the fans and achieved new heights of success for MGK.

“twin flame” contains a short phone conversation between Machine Gun Kelly and his girlfriend Megan Fox, who have been dating since early 2020. They sound very much in love with each other and rumors are that they are planning a ‘dark‘ wedding soon. Megan Fox also starred in the music video for Machine Gun Kelly’s hit single “Bloody Valentine.”

The whole song is a dedication to MGK’s girlfriend Megan Fox. On the Lala Kent and Randall Emmett’s podcast, Megan Fox said; “I knew right away that Colson was what I call a twin flame”. MGK’s birth name is Colson Baker.

MGK “twin flame” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

In the first verse of the song, MGK reveals that it has been six days since they first met and things have been connecting on all fronts. He brings astrology into the mix just to show that their meeting was a stroke of fate. But the rest of their story is actually what they make out of it.

On the first day, you told me, “I was your twin flame from a past life”
And tonight the moon is full, so take me anywhere outside

More astronomy is brought into the mix – but this time it’s more romantic. MGK and his lover are enjoying a peaceful walk under the moonlight.

In the hook of the song, Machine Gun Kelly confesses that he does not deserve her. She is everything he ever wanted and he does not feel like he earned to be with her.

Twins are said to have an unexplainable connection with each other. They seem to get each other and understand each other. Or so it is believed. So, claiming that your partner, whom you met six days ago, as your ‘twin’ is quite a significant thing. When you are that sure about someone, it just works no matter what.

In the second verse, MGK further cements his love for her and says that he has many ways of saying that he fell in love with her at the first sight. The lyric “be mine” is a reference to MGK and Megan Fox’s collaboration in the “Bloody Valentine” music video from 2020.

In the interlude to the song, MGK reveals a short phone conversation between Megan Fox and himself. Albeit being short, there is a lot of emotion trapped in their words and tone. They are both on the same page for everything, even running away from everyone. This is the twin effect.

The song ends in a bridge… and it has no happy ending. MGK murmurs “This changes everything, now I have to set you free.” They say ‘if you love someone, let them go. If they come back, it was meant to work out.’

The song explodes into an instrumental chaos, possibly hinting at MGK’s sanity when he lets her go. Either way, “twin flame” is a very creative musical craft.

  1. I think you are right! MGK had a lot going on when he met Megan. The heartbeat is his Dads. This changes everything- is him being confused because the only love was his Dad and now he’s gone and Megan has been right there by him so he can move forward with her by his side. So he’s letting go of the loss of his Dad and says he will see him in his dreams.
