Niall Horan is back from a long hiatus with a brand new single “Heaven” which also ushers in a brand new era of music as well. The song is the first taste of Niall’s upcoming 2023 album ‘The Show.’
Niall Horan’s last project, titled ‘Heartbreak Weather’ was released in March 2020, which marks three years of absence from new music. However, along with the announcement of the “Heaven” single, the 29-year-old singer announced his third studio album ‘The Show,’ expected to release in June 2023.
In a press release of the song, Niall Horan explained the inspiration behind the song; “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that society loves to pressure us into reaching certain milestones by a certain age. Whether that’s getting married or anything else that really should be based on our own instincts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to let go of those expectations and just follow my heart. The chorus of this song is saying that what I have in my life currently is amazing. So it would be crazy to ruin that by giving into outside pressures.”

Niall Horan “Heaven” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
The song is bound around the idea that love knows no limits or paths. It is a bliss that surrounds us in which we want to get lost. A lot of times, this is enough. Save for the pressures of society, this is enough.
Niall Horan talks about this bliss. He talks about this strange light that revolves around his significant other. This is that purple haze that blinds them. This haze hides imperfections and showcases each other in a sort of a ‘pedestal.’ So, it makes sense that Niall says that he sees her ‘floating across the room.’ This is also a metaphor for her elegance and is also proof of her affection towards her.
Another line that shows the singer’s absolute love towards his partner is when he says that heaven can’t hold a candle to her. This simply means that all the glamours that we perceive about heaven are right here on earth for him.
The next few lines describe the underlying message of the song.
Let’s not get complicated
Let’s just enjoy the view
Complicating a relationship could mean marriage. This is what Niall insinuates as getting pressured into taking the relationship to the next level. There is nothing special waiting for a couple in elevating the relationship to a marriage (save for the legal benefits). And a lot of people end up feeling ‘trapped’ in a marriage rather than feeling liberated.
The singer and their partner are having the time of their life without signing legal documents. Why change a good thing?
In the hook of the song, Niall Horan acknowledges that nothing is written in stone. They might be living their best life right now. But things can change drastically in a few months. Regardless of what the future holds, there is no need to change anything in the present. Anyway, there is nothing a legal certificate can do to prevent a fallout in the future.
Living in the present, and enjoying the best of what life offers right now, is the name of the game for these two. There is no need to complicate things now.
