taylor swift 1989 taylor's version lyrics review

Taylor Swift – Is It Over Now? | Song Lyrics Meaning

“Is It Over Now?” is a brand new track by Taylor Swift from her re-released album ‘1989.’ The song is a vault track, meaning it did not make the cut into the album tracklist in 2014. But, it is here now, and let’s dissect what Taylor has to say.

‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ was released on October 27, 2023, exactly 9 years after the original album release. Announcing the new album, Taylor Swift said “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of the album I love so dearly… This moment is a reflection of the woods we’ve wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark.”

“Is It Over Now?” is a song about heartbreak and acceptance of the fact that both of them played a part in its course. Taylor mentioned that she considers “Is It Over Now?” a sister song to “Out Of The Woods” and “I Wish You Would.” One thing all these songs have in common is a sense of uncertainty about their relationships.

Taylor Swift “Is It Over Now?” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

In the first verse of the song, Taylor lets us know that her relationship is in shambles. Flights have taken off and roses have lost their color where they sit. She has gotten used to sleeping alone in her bed for some time now. But the memory of their relationship still taunts her from time to time. Is it really over for them or is there some miracle waiting to be discovered?

Many a coffee later, Taylor is still lurking around his social media just to find out that he is back to his old ways. He is insatiable, as he goes thirsting from one maiden to the next–never seemingly quenching his appetite for something fresh.

So, it must be over now? Very much so, but, poor Taylor is in denial.

It was most definitely over when Taylor slept with another man while Taylor’s partner was still chasing his unicorn. It was also definitely over when her partner continued to sleep around, ignoring the burning relationship he was in.

Verse two hints at an accident during winter where either of them drew blood. Unironically enough, Taylor Swift and her ex, Harry Styles were in a snowmobile accident as also told in the song “Out Of The Woods.”

In the bridge of the song, Taylor Swift admits that she played her part in this relationship to derail as well. The only decent thing she did was keep her affair as far away from home as she could. Him? Not so much. His crimes were flashing red lights that painted the town.

On social media and gossip tabloids, Taylor Swift sees the man she adored a month back out and about with new models–always looking for something more. She also sees that he is hunting for the next best thing and never settling–makes her feel a little okay.
