Billie Eilish – LUNCH | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

The second track on Billie Eilish’s brand new album is a mouthful–as the singer explores her love for another girl. The song lyrics go far beyond just love, well crossing over to edges of lust. Let’s explore what the “Lunch” song has in store for us.

Billie Eilish released her third studio album ‘HIT ME HARD & SOFT’ on May 17, 2024. The album has been in the works for a few years since ‘Happier Than Ever’ album release in 2021. As per Billie, the title of the album is literal–“hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically, while bending genres and defying trends along the way.” The album had no singles before its release as Billie wanted her fans to experience it all at once.

“Lunch” is a song about eating–but not food, but Billie’s lover. In November 2023, Billie Eilish told in an interview with Variety magazine that she was surprised that people did not know that she was into girls. This song is all the confirmation we need in this regard.

In a 2024 interview with Billboard magazine, Billie Eilish talked about “Lunch” and the real-life experiences that inspired the song;

“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real. I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina.

Billie Eilish “Lunch” Lyrics Review and Song Meaning

The song kicks off with the hook and the lyrics waste no time getting right into the topic.

I could eat that girl for lunch
Yeah, she dances on my tongue

The lyrics talk about Billie Eilish going down on another girl. Both of them are enjoying what is going on and Billie is hooked. The other girl squirms on Billie’s mouth with pleasure. Both of them can’t get enough.

They are keeping this relationship private for now. Being a celebrity, Billie Eilish is always under the spotlight. They use fake monikers to go about meeting in hotels. While Billie is writing the song, she hears her coming upstairs. She pulls up a chair to sit right in front of the bed. She is putting her hair up so it doesn’t get in the way of her meal about to be served.

Verse 1

In the first verse of the song, Billie Eilish gets flirtatious. There could be something more to them than just sex. She has Billie falling hard. Billie thinks she is the perfect recipe for her–just the kind of taste she gets addicted to.

Verse 2

Billie Eilish stops to admire the beauty of the skin of the girl she is with. She radiates in the sunlight by the window.

You need a seat? I’ll volunteer

But not for long. Billie Eilish cannot just wait. She wants to offer this girl a seat–Billie’s face. This is a very common metaphor for oral sex. Billie’s friend does not refuse her offer. Now she is smiling ear-to-ear with pleasure.

Billie’s lover is so radiant in every way that Billie is blinded now. She compares this to a deer in headlights–a dangerous venture for the deer that is blinded by vehicle lights. The deer is about to die, but it also cannot move out of the headlight.

If any fans had ever questioned Billie Eilish’s sexuality, “Lunch” should give a clear answer to them. This song is not just another song–this is a confession and an acceptance letter to self.
