The lyrics to the song are simple and straightforward, but worth taking a look at it since Macklemore is clearly trying to send a message to his fans via the song.

Verse 1

You know I’m back like I never left
Another sprint, another step
Another day, another breath
Been chasing dreams, but I never slept

Macklemore feels as if he is back on the music game. He was out of producing music for the better part of 2016 and until June in 2017. But in mind, it is as if he never left. Probably he has been creating new content and planning the next world tour.

He is back for another sprint in music. His music has been so successful that everytime he produces something new, his career sprints ahead.

He is living his dreams. Macklemore has worked hard towards his dreams and now he is reaping the benefits of it-content.

I got a new attitude and a lease on life
And some peace of mind
Seek and I find I can sleep when I die
Wanna piece of the pie, grab the keys to the ride
And shit I’m straight

Macklemore feels as if music saved his life. At this point of his career, he feels peace of mind and that is quite rare among the mainstream artists. He feels a sense of accomplishment, so even if he dies tomorrow he can die in peace.

I’m on my wave, I’m on my wave
Get out my wake, I’m running late, what can I say?

The artist is riding a wave of success and he wants his path cleared because he will do everything to achieve his goal. So better not stand in his way and get washed away.

I heard you die twice, once when they bury you in the grave
And the second time is the last time that somebody mentions your name

A person dies when his last breath has left his body, but he revives when someone awakens him memory. This is why we say artists such as MJ, Proof, Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. are immortal, because they live on forever with their untimely music. Macklemore wishes to achieve such a feat too.

So when I leave here on this earth, did I take more than I gave?
Did I look out for the people or did I do it all for fame?

Macklemore has always tried to push a positive message through his music and this is one of those instances. He does not want to be a slave of fame.

The chorus is done by Skylar Grey…

I feel glorious, glorious
Got a chance to start again
I was born for this, born for this
It’s who I am, how could I forget?
I made it through the darkest part of the night
And now I see the sunrise
Now I feel glorious, glorious
I feel glorious, glorious

The chorus of “Glorious” speaks out the message in between the verses. The singer feels glorious out of the fact that he has accomplished so much in the line of his dreams. He feels as if he is born for music. He also feels as if the toughest part of his career is over, rightly so because he has made a name for himself in the industry and it is a unique name.

Verse 2

I’m feeling glorious
The crib looking Victorian (oh yes it is)

Ben addresses his success with a subtle mention of his house being Victorian style. Victorian style of architecture is presumed to be elegant and flamboyant.

You know that we been going in
Since we hopped out that Delorean (Delorean, yeah we win)

Macklemore has not forgotten his roots as he gives a shoutout to his breakout single “Thrift Shop.” Delorean is the car he drives in that single and the song put the names Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on the map. Since then, he has been having some high success with his last album ‘The Heist’ going Platinum.

My grandma smiling down on me like woo, that boy got bars
Okay, okay, yes I do
I said amen and hallelujah, let me testify too
Another morning, a morning, don’t let self get in my way
I got my breath, I got my faith and I remember why I came

Macklemore is a family man and he is not afraid to show it. He mentions his grandma who has been very supportive of his music career. And Macklemore agrees that he has got some serious bars. As long as he has breath and faith left in him, he says he will do good through his music and that is his purpose in life.

Bridge

We gon’ be alright, put that on my life
When I open my eyes, hope I see you shine
We’re planting a flag they don’t understand
The world is up for grabs

The singer is saying that everything will be fine when you follow your dreams with a twist of good in them. There is basically no limit to what you can achieve and the whole world is up for the taking.

  1. The Exodus as per Wiki means “The Exodus is the founding, or etiological, myth of Israel, telling how the Israelites were delivered from slavery by Yahweh and therefore belong to him through the Mosaic covenant.”

Euphoria means “Euphoria is an affective state in which a person experiences pleasure or excitement and intense feelings of well-being and happiness.”

So both of them put together, this could mean that like how Israelites were freed from slavery and were delivered to a land of bliss and prosperity, the human kind has come through a lot of hardships to be in the present state of freedom and happiness.

“20,000” could be a reference to the famous movie ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ where it is a whole other world out there. Ben could be meaning the same thing but in their day to day streets instead.

    Hope this makes some sense.
