Watch the Tragic-Love Story in “Happier” Video by Marshmello and Bastille (Lyrics Review)

‘Yellow’ is a strange colour that has the ability to reflect both brightness and sadness at the same time. The new music video for “Happier” by Marshmello and Bastille, captures this concept very well. Although the song speaks of a failing relationship, whereas the music video draws inspiration from a bond between a dog and its owner. Both are quite tragic love stories.

In a Tweet last month, Bastille announced that they wrote the song and Marshmello produced it. They also admit that it was meant to be a sad melancholy, which was uplifted with the electronic music by Marshmello.

“Happier” is rumoured to appear in Bastille’s upcoming studio album ‘Other People’s Heartache, Part 4,’ although they are mentioned as a featured artist on the track.

The music video winds around the story of a girl getting a puppy as a birthday present. This girl grows up with this puppy and shares all her sad and happy moments with it. What we all fail to realize is that any pet has a very short lifespan compared to human beings. So we must face the inevitable departure some years down the line.

Halfway through the music video, we are shown several medicines given to this gorgeous Golden Retriever. The label reads ‘Mello,’ which could be a reference to the producer Marshmello. There is no identified drug named ‘Mello’ used on canines.

The “Happier” video shows us the inevitable tragic end of the pet and how devastated the girl becomes. 20 years down the line, this girl is a mother and for her daughter’s birthday, she gets her a puppy. And the scene is full of joy again. But the cycle has begun again.

If you have ever loved and lost a pet, “Happier” music video is sure to leave you in tears. Ironic! But we love it nonetheless for the message it is trying to deliver to the society.
