The song was received quite well by the music community as it reached a peak of #9 on US Mainstream Top 40 chart by Billboard. As Rexha herself admits, this is one of the rare songs that accept one’s own flaws and imperfections.
“I’m A Mess” is such an important song for me. Putting it out, I was really nervous, because, a lot of times people don’t expect, especially female artists to put out a song that says ‘hey i’m a mess–i’m not perfect–here i am.’ I wanted to celebrate my insecurities and imperfectons because I know I’m not the only one that feels this way.”
