Demi Lovato – Anyone | Lyrics Review and Song Meaning

Posted on January 25, 2020February 2, 2020 By Adam McDonald No Comments on Demi Lovato – Anyone | Lyrics Review and Song Meaning

Demi Lovato is ready to make her big return to music in 2020, after her near-fatal overdose in 2018. She announced her brand new song titled “Anyone,” which marks her first song release since 2018’s “Sober.” Her big return to music will also include her debut Grammy performance on January 26, 2020, performing this brand new song. Let us take a look at this new song, its lyrics and its relationship with Demi Lovato’s “cry for help.”

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Demi Lovato explained how she penned “Anyone” right before her overdose. “I recorded the vocals for it four days before [the overdose]. The lyrics took on a totally different meaning [after]. At the time when I was recording it, I almost listened back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” she said. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listened to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl.'”

“I remember being in the hospital and listening to the song and it was about a week after I had been in the hospital and I was finally like awake, and I just remember hearing back the songs I had just recorded and thinking, ‘If there’s ever a moment where I get to come back from this, I want to sing this song,'” she explained further.

“Anyone” will be the first release from her Demi’s upcoming 7th studio album. It is clear that Demi will be revealing her inner-most thoughts about her life, battles and recovery in this album.

The released lyrics from “Anyone” suggest that Demi Lovato felt abandoned in her cry for help during her struggles in 2018. The lyrics emphasize how she tried to talk to some inanimate objects because there was no one else around her to listen to her. Of course, this effort would have been futile, which would have heightened her need to resolve conflicts through drugs.

Listen to “Anyone” by Demi Lovato

Verse 1

In this eerie confession, Demi Lovato tells us how she was all alone in her problems. With a fanbase of over millions and celebrity friends and family, she still found no one who listened to her.

So she talked the most personal inanimate objects of her life-the piano and the guitar. Obviously, she did not find the resolution she needed from these objects. Talking to your imagination is barely a helpful tactic because it leads to further questions, doubts and insecurity. Demi was all alone externally and internally.

The only help she found was in alcohol and possibly drugs as well. With drugs and alcohol, she did not need to worry about being judged, or being blamed for her own actions. They just took her to another planet where she felt safe and free. So she revealed all her secrets to the bottles and the pills. It was therapeutic while the high lasted. So she had to keep on taking them into her body.

Pre-chorus

Demi Lovato says that she could sing 100 million stories in 100 million songs but if there is no one to listen to her and no one when she needs one, what is the purpose of all this! She put her faith in the unknown and the God above, which she claims was of no use as well. Her solitude has made her question her beliefs and faith as well.

Chorus

These emotional lyrics are a pure cry for help. She is literally asking anyone to send anyone to help her get through her struggles. You might lose faith, but it is also the last resort you turn into when all other options have failed.

Verse 2

In these lyrics to “Anyone” by Demi Lovato, she confesses that ‘stardom’ got to her head. She craved for popularity, glitz and the glamour. This, in turn, made her depressed and stressed when she lacked the attention of the world.

But now she realizes that “affection” is more powerful than “attention” because the latter fades away in the blink of an eye.

It is the duty of all of us to look after our friends and family. Nobody is safe from the grips of anxiety, depression and stress. Demi Lovato is not the first celebrity to suffer at the hands of depression and she will not be the last. Keep your family and friends close and spread love all around.

Let us hear what you think about this song and its meaning in the comments below.
