Billie Eilish announced that a new song titled “my future” will be released on Thursday, 30th July 2020. The single reflects on Billie’s past, present and future, and how optimistic she is about it.
In a private letter sent to fans, Billie Eilish talked about the song and her inspiration behind it;
we wrote this at the very beginning of quarantine. it’s a song that’s really really personal and special to me. when we wrote this song, it was exactly where my head was at – hopeful, excited and a craaaazy amount of self reflection and self growth. but recently it has also taken on a lot of new meaning in the context of what’s happening in the world now. i hope you can all find meaning in it for yourselves.
the future feels uncertain and crazy right now. but i think we need to be ready to put the work in, and if we do that, we should be hopeful and excited for our future. i have to keep reminding myself that the future is ours, and i know we want to do everything we can to make it better for everyone in the world, and for the world itself.

Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, Billie Eilish is conflicted with her inner emotions. She notices herself in two facades–the inner her, and the one in the mirror–or the real her. Although she notices a person in the mirror, she doesn’t help her to collect her thought process. And sometimes, it is difficult to recognize the person you see in the mirror.

These lyrics indicate that maybe, Billie Eilish is not becoming the person she wanted to be. She is striding further away from her ‘home.’ Maybe she is waiting for someone to tell her that it is okay to come home.
Chorus
Even though she is not straddling towards a future that she did not anticipate, she still loves it. Maybe she chooses to see only the positives of the path she is in. Billie Eilish is well en route to becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. Her debut studio album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?‘ was a global success.
Billie Eilish says she is excited to meet the future her–a global superstar, a role model to many, and an artist of great caliber. But in the process, she does not want to abandon her true self. In the second verse of “my future,” Billie Eilish talks about her relationships and the fear of being lonely. She addresses the norm that society thinks that unless you are with someone else, you are lonely, depressed, and sad. But this is not true at all. Once you learn to enjoy your own company, you will never be lonely, depressed, or sad. She is someone with whom she can enjoy the company of.
