The term ‘party for one’ comes from when you go out a restaurant and order a table for a ‘party of’ x number of people. Here, Carly Rae Jepsen speaks of a party of one-which means she is by herself.

The video does not restrict itself to showing people’s different forms of self-love. Some may drink, some may smoke, some may lay down and watch TV, some may take a bubble bath with spaghetti in it, and a kinky grandma could still experiment with her sexual fire using sex toys. The video tries to justify any and every harmless act that one can do to truly bond with yourself.
The lyrics of the song loosely winds around a failed relationship. Carly Rae Jepsen questions her decisions that made her fall in love with him, only to be heartbroken and dumped down the gutter. However, Jepsen admits to herself that what has happened has happened and there is nothing she can do about it. Her next phase in life would be self-discovery and self-love. How? She opens up to so many possibilities.
