This ballad finds Billie Eillish stuck in a complicated relationship. He says he loves her, but his actions speak otherwise. And Billie truly loves him and she doesn’t want to. In the first verse, we find that the guy is crying because of something Billie has done and Billie isn’t exactly sure what it is. She believes he is playing the victim.
In the second verse, Billie says that both would be better off lying to each other. This would officially mark the beginning of the end of their relationship. For some reason, the guy is in tears. Maybe, Billie Eilish is breaking up with him, because she cannot stand the pain.
Even on the outro of “i love you,” Billie Eilish is laying in his arms thinking how none of them love each other. This relationship has gotten very toxic. But they are not moving on from each other. They fall apart in each others arms.
