Billie Eilish – goodbye (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

“goodbye” is the 14th track on the brand new debut album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’ by Billie Eilish released on March 29, 2019.

In “goodbye,” Billie Eilish kind of plays with the lyrics of all the tracks. Starting from the first line, Billie restates a lyric from each of the songs on the album in reverse order.

The lyrics to “goodbye” and which song each lyric line references to are compiled below;

“It’s not true” – “i love you
“Take me to the rooftop” – “listen before i go
“Told you not to worry” – “ilomilo
“What do you want from me?” – “bury a friend
“Don’t ask questions” – “my strange addiction
“Wait a minute” – “8
“Don’t you know I’m no good for you?” – “when the party’s over
“Baby, I don’t feel so good” – “wish you were gay
“And all the good girls go to hell” – “all the good girls go to hell.
“Bite my tongue, bide my time” – “you should see me in a crown
“What is it about them?” – “xanny
“I’m the bad guy” – “bad guy

You might notice that there are 14 tracks on ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’ album and only 12 song references appear in this list. “goodbye” itself does not appear in its lyrics and the intro track “!!!!!!!” is also excluded from the list courtesy of it not being an actual song.
