5 Seconds Of Summer – Easier (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

5SOS have come up with their first solo music work for 2019 with the brand new track “Easier.” The song follows a pop-rock theme with some soft vocals by the lead singer of 5 Seconds Of Summer.

“Easier” follows 5SOS’s last collaboration “Who Do You Love” with The Chainsmokers released in February 2019, and their last album ‘Youngblood’ in June 2018. This new song is most likely from an upcoming album project by the group, yet to be confirmed.

5 Seconds Of Summer teased “Easier” with a snippet of the song on Twitter on May 19, 2019 along with the song title and release date. Members of 5SOS–Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Luke Hemmings, all released snippets of the song and the music video on their personal Twitter pages as well.

There is high chance that the upcoming fourth studio album by 5 Seconds Of Summer would be titled ‘C.A.L.M’ as teased by the below post.

The music video released along with the single shows the band members performing the song in a darkened cave. The video also portrays some bizarre imagery such as burning pictures, flags and drowning people.

Besides the members of 5SOS, artists such as Charlie Puth and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic have aided in the lyrics composition for this song.

Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Easier”

In a nutshell, the song is about being stuck in a toxic relationship. The singer is delirious as to what the best course of action is.

Intro

These lyrics set the tempo to the song–lyrically, not musically. The singer seems to be confused as to what he is supposed to do in his current situation of the relationship.

If he leaves the relationship, he has to deal with the pain of heartbreak, which is not easy. If he decides to continue the relationship, he still has to suffer from the toxicity of it. This is not easy either.

Neither one of them is doing anything to change the toxicity of this relationship. The singer assures that he won’t change, and his partner seems to love this love-hate nature of their attachment.

Verse 1

In the first verse of “Easier,” 5SOS lead vocalist Luke Hemmings continues to elaborate how the toxicity runs in this relationship. One thing that makes it impossible to work this out is their communication. Both the singer and his partner seems to put off the ‘talk’ that is much needed in this situation. And the more they put off the discussion, the more burning circles they keep running through.

Pre-chorus

In these lyrics, all members join vocals to shout out why the singer cannot walk out. He hates her and he loves her. Her innocence looks and her beauty are far more than what he can handle. It might be that he finds it difficult to believe that such beauty and innocence could produce this much toxicity.

Verse 2

The second verse is no difference from the previous verses where the singer confesses that he is simply stuck. Each time the girl tries to walk away, the singer grows weak and falls to his knees. Suddenly, he is the one who is begging her not to leave.
