Sam Smith Reveals ‘To Die For’ Album (Tracklist, Cover, Review & Release Date)

Sam Smith has a new album coming out and he chose the perfect day to announce it-Valentine’s Day 2020. However, the album is far from romantic as the singer talks about his sorrows of being alone. ‘To Die For’ is not the romantic emblem you were looking for, but it is the romantic tragedy that we were hoping for, from Sam Smith.

On February 13, 2020, Sam Smith took to his social media to announce the title, album cover and the release date of his third studio album. He also announced the release of the title track on Valentine’s Day.

Album Review

Almost all the songs of the album so far deal with heartbreak and lost love. On “Dancing With a Stranger,” Sam Smith sings about how his partner’s misconceptions drove them apart and now he is seeking consolation in the arms of strangers. On “How Do You Sleep?” the singer laments over a failing relationship because he knows that he is lying to him. But Sam is too afraid to leave him in fear of not finding any love at all. On “To Die For,” Sam Smith gets desperate in his pursuit of love and happiness. He finds it hard to tolerate how all the other people around him are in love and there is no one for him yet.

The cover of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” has been done out of pure tribute to the artist and the song. Upon releasing the cover, Sam Smith Tweeted; “(this song) followed me to every dance floor in every queer space from the minute I started clubbing. This song to me is an anthem of our community and it was an honour and most importantly so much fun to have a go at it…”

It is likely that the remainder of the songs also assumes a similar tone to these tracks released so far. There also could be one or two songs where Sam does find love.

Album Release Date

Sam Smith revealed that the album will drop on May 1, 2020.
