As the Coronavirus COVID-19 has had a massive blow on all public gatherings and transport, pretty much all the concerts and live performances have been put on hold for the foreseeable future. And many people have turned towards indoor activities such as video gaming to kill time. So what better place to hold a virtual concert than the massive online gaming community of Fortnite video game. Travis Scott did just that and also introduced a brand new song and a brand new supergroup: “The Scotts.”
“The Scotts” is the debut release of the group, also named The Scotts, consisting of Travis Scott and Kid Cudi. The name derives from Travis’ stage name and Kid Cudi’s real name, Scott Mescudi. The virtual concert was held on April 23, 2020, to a massive virtual crowd of millions around the world.
Fortnite announced that an all-time record of 12.3 million concurrent players participated in this live concert.
Before this 2020 virtual concert, Marshmello did a show on Fortnite in 2019.

“THE SCOTTS” Lyrics Review & Song Meaning
Verses by both Travis and Kid Cudi focus on rapping about their stardom in the music game. The most frequent word on the verses is “outside,” which stands to mean their surroundings. While the rappers talk about their reach all around the world, they also talk about the gangs and violence just outside their doorsteps.
Different lines on the two verses containing the word “outside” give different meanings to the sentence. For example; “the cops outside / Lock up the house” talk about the police brutality against African Americans. Another line “the Porsche outside / Without the top” line references to their riches and fame. A line like “We put the mic outside” references to the rappers’ global outreach.
In Kid’s verses he is also heard giving a shout out to his hometown Cleveland, Ohio where he grew up. This also lines up with the theme of the song, speaking about taking it outside from the house.
