“Grey” is the sixth track on Why Don’t We’s 2021 album ‘The Good Times and The Bad Ones.’ The song is a slow ballad of moving through emotions as a relationship blossoms, peaks, and comes to a fall.
Why Don’t We released their second studio album, titled ‘The Good Times and The Bad Ones’ on January 15, 2021. Prior to the release, the band released “Fallin’,” “Lotus Inn,” and “Slow Down” promotional singles. The band also mentioned that this was the first album they wrote and produced on their own.
The song title is a hint at the outlook of the world around you when your relationship has come to a crashing halt. All the colors that painted a beautiful scenery around you seem dull and lifeless in such a mentality.

“Grey” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
In the beginning of the song, we hear the singer falling in love with this person, and everything around him looks vibrant. He cannot hide the excitement of being in love with her and her kisses. The singer believed that she was the one, who came to his life as if to answer his call for love and happiness.
However, from the chorus onward, the emotions of the song change drastically. We come to know that the girl has left the singer and everything is crashing down around him. The castle walls he had built around him are crumbling down and he does not know how to make things better.
The singer blames himself for their relationship to break apart. He says that he did not pay attention to what was going on between them and she moved on. Now the singer is a hot mess–crying and begging for her to come back.
But she is not coming back. The world looks a lot dimmer and darker right now for him. It all looks grey, dull, and lifeless. Rain is closely associated with a similar mood, and his life is a continuous thunderstorm right now.
