Pop Smoke “Demeanor” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
Chorus
Pop Smoke sings about all the loose women that he has grown to associate with the massive rise of his success in recent years. ‘Baba treesha’ is slang for a woman who is easy when it comes to sexual affairs. Pop Smoke’s aura seems to arouse these women but Smoke has to be very careful. His demeanor is both attractive and intimidating to most.
Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, Pop Smoke touches on a variety of topics. He talks about gang violence in the streets that unnecessarily takes brothers’ lives.
You send a shot, we send it back, all facts, no cap
He also sings how the system has pushed them into these situations where a minimum wage of $11 per hour is not going to make the cut. Instead, they are pushed towards violent means to make ends meet. Then obviously, the cops chase after them. And this game of cat and mouse only ends in one of two ways–the brothers dying on the streets or being imprisoned.
‘Cause either way, mommy still gon’ love her kid
A mother’s love is the greatest force in this world. No matter how bad her child is, she will still defend them.
Pop Smoke also hints at his successful music career stating how he has been upgrading his lifestyle–moving from AirForce 1 shoes to Guccis, upgrading his Timberland boots to Yeezy boosts, and diamonds dripping all over him.
Verse 2
Dua Lipa brings in her A-game in the vocals and the music video. She portrays an absolute fearless alpha-female as she sings;
Female alpha and I practice what I preach, I devour
Dua Lipa has been the fantasy of both males and females alike. The 26-year-old superstar is one of the hottest female singers in the industry right now. But she is taken. So she sings that everyone else can only touch her with their eyes!
In the bridge of the song, Dua Lipa pays tribute to Pop Smoke and sings “You can’t say Pop without Smoke.” Dua Lipa Tweeted the same lyrics with a video of Pop Smoke bumping to Dua Lipa’s hit “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris.
