Trippie Redd – Betrayal Ft. Drake | Lyrics Meaning Explained

Trippie Redd released his latest album ‘Trip At Night’ and one of its songs has sparked some controversy between two prolific figures in hip hop. The third track on the album is titled “Betrayal” and features a verse by Drake. This is their first-ever collaboration although there were rumors of collaborations before. In the song, Drake seemingly takes a subtle jab at Kanye West with whom he has been fanning fire since a few years back.

‘Trip At Night’ is the fifth studio album by Trippie Redd and was released on August 20, 2021. “Betrayal” was not included in this version, but was released on ‘Trip At Night (Complete Edition)’ album a day later.

In “Betrayal,” both Trippie Redd and Drake sing about the betrayals they have suffered throughout their careers. Trippie sings how he rises above all these snakes in his life and brings in many video gaming references to tell how he beats them.

Drake, on the other hand, talks about how he has been trampled in the industry all throughout. He says there have been too many people coming at this throat that he lost his count. However, he also seemingly references “Ye” in his lyrics;

All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know
Forty-five, forty-four (Burned out), let it go
‘Ye ain’t changin’ sh*t for me, it’s set in stone

Kanye West is 44-years-old at the time of the song’s release. Drake could be taking a jab at his age amongst adding him to the list of people who have betrayed him over the years.

Kanye and Drake were close collaborators before things started taking a turn for the worse towards 2010. A culmination of misunderstandings, lack of communications, Amber Rose, jabs by Drake, jabs by Kanye, and leading up to clashes in album release dates of ‘Donda’ and ‘Certified Lover Boy’ in 2021, have caused their relationship to deteriorate over the years. On “Betrayal,” Drake seems to be talking about the potential clash in release dates of their highly-anticipated albums ‘Donda’ by Kanye and ‘Certified Lover Boy’ by Drake. He says that Kanye is not changing anything about his plans or even plans to actively sabotage Drake’s release date of the album. Kanye West has been postponing the release date of ‘Donda’ countless times now even after officially confirming the release date on his personal Instagram account.
