Juice WRLD – Burn | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“Burn” is the first track on Juice WRLD’s 2021 album ‘Fighting Demons.’ Much like the album, this song talks about Juice’s substance abuse issues and how he used it as an escape mechanism from bigger problems. In the end, his solution ended up consuming him.

Juice WRLD released his second posthumous album ‘Fighting Demons’ on December 10, 2021. This also marks the second-year anniversary of Juice’s death on December 8, 2019, following a drug overdose. His first posthumous album ‘Legends Never Die‘ remains the most-successful posthumous album debut.

At the young age of 21, Juice WRLD was exposed to a world of fame, riches, and its own pitfalls at the same time. Juice was suffering from anxiety and depression and he might have used drugs as an escape from these demons. However, drugs keep on numbing the pain as long as you take one more pill each day until the day you take one too many. Until such time, you keep burning both in your head, body, and soul.

Juice WRLD “Burn” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

Throughout the song, Juice WRLD explains his struggles with addiction. From his POV, it is clear that he did not see a solution to his bundle of problems. He shot up to fame courtesy of his talent as a rapper. This bought in racks of dollars as well as attracted all the snakes to him. His mind could not handle everything happening around him and he started to crack. And this is when his inner demons start to rise up. And they only grow worse.

I been cursed since birth, guess I never learn

Most celebrities, singers, and people use drugs and alcohol as a means of escaping from inner demons. But this is a fake oasis that sucks you in and down. When you start climbing down this ladder, it only keeps going down, and it only gets darker until you cannot see a way up. Sliding down is easy. Climbing up is hard. This is when you should seek external help.

I can’t take one Percocet, start tonight off, I just took a 60

Percocet is a pain-relieving medicine. But it is also considered to be highly addictive and leads to high dependency on them. The above line alone shows how deep had Juice WRLD gone down the stairway. Percocet 60mg tablets are only prescribed for extreme situations and for opioid-intolerant patients, these high doses can cause fatal respiratory depression.

Throughout the lyrics of this song, it is very clear that Juice WRLD was aware of the damage he was causing himself and also the impact of his behavior on the people he loved. He was clearly concerned about his mother and his then-girlfriend Ally Lotti. He was also very aware of the fact that his addiction could take his life someday. But he seems to have not seen a solution. After his death, his mother revealed that Juice WRLD had agreed to go to rehab a week prior to his death.

I fell asleep too deep that one time

The line above tells us that Juice WRLD has been dancing with the devil way too close to his comfort. It is only a matter of time at this stage!

Uh-huh, numb the pain with my wealth

This is what Juice WRLD tries to do and this is nothing new. Everybody employs some sort of escape mechanism to cope up with various issues in their lives. And almost all of these escape mechanisms are bad for you. The only real solution is dealing with the root of the problem. If you cannot fight this battle alone, and you should not have to, always reach out. You are never alone in these wars.
