Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Sunflower”

Verse 1

The jump into the song is an annotation of how Miles Morales (Spider-man) relationship is nothing but toxic to him. He had to keep a tab on her and she was giving all bad vibes into his life. How? We do not know yet. It comes to a point where Miles cannot take her any more and thinks of calling it quits.

Her love was toxic to him. She was screaming in his face and tripping about everything.

Chorus

“You don’t realize the value of something/someone until you lose them” seems to be the theme of this song. Turning a full circle from the first verse, now the singer talks about how she was a ‘sunflower’ in his life!

Now the Spidey goes ahead and dumps her and then he realizes the part she played in his life. She brought light into his life. She was his happy pill.

Verse 2

The second verse of the song by Post Malone truly sheds some light into their relationship and why the singer resorts to calling her a ‘sunflower’ in the end.

Post sings that this girl is persistent. She does not give up easily on this relationship. Every time Spidey turns away from their relationship, she is the one who screams ‘turn around.’ Now we see the Spidey asking her to give him a reason to go. Because he cannot find any. But does he truly want to leave?

The girl is said to be the only one fighting in this relationship for the relationship to continue. The guy, for some reason, really wants to leave it all. But she is the sunflower that energizes his life. Where what has gone is beyond our comprehension!

The artists are bold enough to say that they think her “love would be too much.” What does this mean? Drop your thoughts on the song, lyrics and the collaboration in the comments below.
