Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd lost in the fire lyrics video review

Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd – Lost in the Fire (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd have dropped a brand new collaboration to kick off the new year 2019. The single and video “Lost in the Fire” are all kinds of crazy and creepy. This is the French techno DJ-Gesaffelstein and The Weeknd’s third collaboration, after “I Was Never There” and “Hurt You” from The Weeknd’s 2018 EP ‘My Dear Melancholy,.’ The new single, “Lost in the Fire” is a single from Gesaffelstein’s upcoming ‘Hyperion’ album.

The speculation around “Lost in the Fire” is that the song is based around The Weeknd and Bella Hadid’s relationship. There is plenty of proof to state this, which we will get into later in this article. The song insinuates a lot on sex, with the right one, and sparks feud with Drake again.

Both The Weeknd and Gesaffelstein make appearances in the music video. The French DJ is the silver and black gooey character looming around The Weeknd. There is a random female face appearing and disappearing at 0.45 minute mark, which kind of looks like Bella Hadid.

The music video contains some bizarre imagery, some quite out of context. There is a marble statue of two people kissing and it gets overflown in black goo throughout the video. Since the DJ appears in the same kind of material, we wonder if he is signalling his influence in music taking over people.

Another bizzare shot would be a deformed human/animal crawling up on a girl sleeping in a silk nightdress. He looms over her and plants a kiss on her cheek!

Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Lost in the Fire”

Verse 1

Righ off the start of the song, The Weeknd talks about wanting to have sex with this woman. We will call her Bella for now. Abel talks about how she is the one for him and how he wants to have a child with this woman. He also throws a underhand diss at Drake for the claims on Drake for hiding his son Adonis as referenced by Pusha-T on his 2018 diss “The Story of Adidon.”

Pre-chorus

Looking at the timeline of The Weeknd and Bella Hadid’s dating pattern, we can see that the couple split for a year between November 2016 and October 2017. Within this time, Abel got into a relationship with Selena Gomez.

The chorus of “Lost in the Fire” is a repetition of Abel’s cry for not being able to survive without Bella’s love. It took a year apart from her for him to realize this. And he seems to have longterm plans with her.

Verse 2

The Weeknd has no chill in these lyrics as he talks about Bella’s bisexuality. In 2015, it was rumored that Bella Hadid was seen kissing supermodel Stella Maxwell. Bella could have confessed The Weeknd, whom she was dating at the time, that it was a phase. Now, The Weeknd doesn’t seem to mind her bisexuality at all. In fact, he encourages her to bring a friend for a threesome.

Well now our hopes of a Bella Hadid x The Weeknd reuinte is fading away. But in the same verse, The Weeknd says that he has moved on from ‘a girl a day’ lifestyle to committing to one woman. That is progress!
