Ed Sheeran – Cross Me Ft. Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

Ed Sheeran announced the upcoming collaboration titled “Cross Me” on May 21 during an Instagram live session. As expected this brand new collaboration with Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock is released on May 24, 2019 and might usher a new era for Ed Sheeran.

“Cross Me” marks the second single release by Ed Sheeran for 2019. Early May, Ed released another collaboration titled “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber along with a whacky music video. This new song is a part of the newly announced fourth studio album titled ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ by Ed Sheeran.

“Cross Me” sounds like nothing we have heard from Ed Sheeran before. The song is a mix of rap and pop and bop. The song talks about being in a relationship with your one true love and how you will face the wrath of the guy if you ‘cross’ the girl.

The first verse and the pre-chorus performed by Ed Sheeran details how affectionate and protective he is of this girl he sings of. Ed says that he has full faith in her girl that she has no secret business with other men, so he warns other men not to waste their time by approaching her. Ed also says that nobody is coming close to her except him, which may sound borderline insecure.

The bridge performed by rappre PnB Rock addresses this subject lady as his “seed,” which would imply that it is his daughter that Ed and Chance The Rapper are talking about. Even as a father figure, PnB assures that nobody will cross her daughter, and if they do, they will have to cross him as well.

Chance The Rapper joins the conversation in the second verse and goes on to elaborate how even himself cannot cross this woman. She is empowered with Kung-Fu, CrossFit exercises, a death stare, mouth running like a faucet and so on. The rapper calls her ‘his’ queen and everyone else should pay proper respects due to a queen. In more modern and slang terms ‘queen’ translates to ‘HBIC’ which is an abbreviation for ‘Head Bitch In Charge.’
