Tove Lo’s new single “Glad He’s Gone” sets the benchmark for the kind of support all girlfriends need to give each other.
Tove Lo talked about her upcoming studio album ‘Sunshine Kitty’ with Billboard, and expressed that this album feels the closest to her personality; “It ties in with the lynx. This cartoon cat (featured on the artwork) is an extension of me and part of the new music. She’s super cute, but she does stupid sh*t like getting in fights and getting f*cked up. It’s how I feel the album sounds.”
The lead single, titled “Glad He’s Gone,” off of the 2019 album ‘Sunshine Kitty,’ was released on May 31, 2019, along with a lyric video. Even though dubbed as a lyric video, the scenes contain some weirdly random yet fitting snippets of Tove Lo performing the song. Her outfit? Panties and an extra-long sleeved denim shirt!
“Glad He’s Gone” is a song sung to Tove Lo’s best friend who is going through a breakup. The singer gives in a hundred and one reasons why she should not be sad about the breakup.
On Twitter, Tove Lo explained the meaning behind the song for her;
We’ve all been on both sides of the breakup pep talk with our friends and we all know how good it feels to get your partner in crime back when they finally leave that f*ckboy (or girl!) behind.
Reasons for letting him go?
He is egoistic, he likes complaining, he’s just playing, hard to please, he never loved her, he never saw the pretty things in her, he spoilt her and Tove Lo’s freedom, he is a b*tch and he has unrealistically high expectations.
How to get over him?
Dance all night and get guy’s numbers, never go dry (sex-less spell) this summer, get under some guy, and enjoy freedom with her bestie Tove Lo.

Tove Lo’s final piece of advice is that he was never the one for her. Tove Lo saw it right through, but her friend was blinded by love. At least now, Tove Lo is glad that she can see the truth in their relationship and she is there 100% to help her friend move on. Girl power!!!
In an interview with Billboard magazine, Tove Lo talked about the production of the song; “I’m in this, you know, happily in love moment, in my life, so not feeling that I can really sing about a breakup at this point. But then I thought about all my friends going through that sh*t all the time, and like we all have friends dating an idiot that we want them to get rid of, and it’s just a celebration when they finally pull the trigger on that. We still need to be the supportive friend and give them the love and support they need.”
