Just days before Dua Lipa is scheduled to release her second studio album, we have the third single off the album. “Break My Heart” is yet another pop banger just in time to save us from COVID-19 self-boredom!
“Break My Heart” follows the previous two singles “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical.” She also released the title track of the album ‘Future Nostalgia’ as a promotional release. The second studio album is expected to drop on March 27, 2020.
Dua Lipa explained the idea behind this new song via Apple Music; “It’s about finally being in a happy place and knowing this new person is amazing. But then thinking: ‘Nothing else compares to this, and what if this ends and it breaks my heart?’ It’s the whole thing of being scared to be too happy, like when your day is going really well and you think, ‘What’s the one thing that’s going to f**k it up?’ I’m a hopeless romantic and always ask myself: ‘How am I going to protect this?’ But it’s also a sweet and vulnerable place to be, because you also see how much you care. It helped that the people I wrote this with know my boyfriend, which helped me be really open.”

“Break My Heart” Lyrics Meaning & Song Review
Dua Lipa admits that she has gone through a million heartbreaking experiences in her life leading to now. She also admits that she is the first to say “goodbye” in a relationship. Maybe she knows that the harder you hold on, the deeper it cuts. However, in this relationship, it only took a “hello” from this guy for her to realize that she was falling for him.
At the time of this song’s release, Dua Lipa is dating Anwar Hadid, the brother of supermodels Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid. This relationship bloomed in mid-2019.
Dua Lipa is stuck between those bittersweet emotions of falling in love and being scared of it ending. If there’s anything her dating history has taught her, it is that no matter how strong their bond seems, it could end at any moment.
The singer knows that she is going through the same emotions of falling in love as she did with her previous relationships. No matter how many times you get your heartbroken, each new time you blossom with new hope. And it is the same with Lipa now. She is hopeful for a better future with this guy.
In the second verse of “Break My Heart,” Dua Lipa goes as far as to say that “Everyone before you was a waste of time.” Ouch!
Dua Lipa’s worry is if she is falling in love with another person who could break her heart. She strongly feels so!
