The 1975 – Guys | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

As the days draw closer and closer to the release of The 1975’s fourth studio album ‘Notes on a Conditional Form,’ fans keep on getting new tracks off the album. The latest, titled “Guys,” is the eighth release off the tracklist.

Prior to “Guys,” The 1975 released tracks such as “The 1975 (NOACF),” “People,” “Frail State of Mind,” “The Birthday Party,” “Me & You Together Song,” “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know),” and more off the tracklist during the whole of 2020.

The latest release is all about the bond between guys, specifically between the band members of The 1975; Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel.

In an interview with Beats 1 radio, Matt Healey talked about this song; “We’re kind of like brothers. We’ve got a song called “Girls,” and I wanted to just kind of write a song about kind of how much I loved my mates, and I wanted people to have a song that’s like a love song for their mates.”

In the lyrics to this bromantic track, Matt Healey sings about his affection towards his brothers in the band. He goes so far as to sing that the day they started this band was “the best thing that ever happened” in his life.

Matt Healey also says that he realizes that his life without his brothers are quite empty and often boring. It is one area that makes Matt weak and draw a tear to his eye.

In the second verse, Matt talks about a time when all of them were roommates in an apartment. One song, maybe one that they listened or created in that apartment, plays in the background and Matt is flooded with memories. His eyes get wet reminiscing those golden days.

“You guys are the best thing that ever happened to me” is Matt Healey’s final and powerful message at the end of the song.

It is nice to have a group of friends who are closely knit like The 1975 members have. At least we will be motivated to appreciate the relationships we have and cherish them, after listening to this song.
