“Snowman” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
In the song, we find Sia confessing her romantic feelings to a snowman. However, the lifeless snowman is merely a metaphor for her real lover.
Sia uses the holiday theme to her advantage throughout the song. She starts by asking her snowman not to cry. For a snowman made out of snow, crying would be the snow melting. In the second verse, Sia ties in this idea by singing it not to be afraid of the Sun. In most of the songs, Sun represents life, hope, and better days. However, in this track, it is the exact opposite.
Sia confesses that she will not leave the snowman even if the seasons change. A snowman, in a practical sense, lasts only during the winter, which is very temporary in the grand scheme of things. While this is a sweet sentiment by Sia towards the seasonal snowman, she is conveying the same message to her real-life partner.
Mr. Snowman and Mrs. Snowman AKA Sia, seem to be the perfect couple for the season. And every year, when seasons change (or troubles float above them), they recall their wedding vows: “’til death we’ll be freezing.” Under normal circumstances ‘freezing’ will be bad, but since her lover is a snowman, it will be the perfect weather for him.
This is a beautiful holiday song by Sia wrapped up with a theme of love and care. Let us hear what you think about the song in the comments below. Check out the complete lyrics on Genius.
It is the perfect song and wedding vows. Boo played it for me last Christmas. She knows my hearts desire. We both bleed on each other. I believe we both always ran from love because of not letting go of past pain.
Well I just want to get know what the song is about and confirm my suspicion about it – and did not find it.
My interpretation is very dark. I think snowman is actually her dead lover, she still loves him/her, but know its over, the only way how to protect dead is by freezing them, or they naturally decompose. So she admits to rather be dead too than leave him (thats why she wants to go to northpole.) So basically this song, even it is tender musically, is about horrible pain from loss.
It could be also about daydreaming about people we lost.
I think I read something about she lost someone, but I am not sure now and do not want to search it.
