Dream – Roadtrip Ft. PmBata | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

Clay (last name unknown) better known by his online presence as Dream or DreamWasTaken, is an American YouTuber and a Minecraft speedrunner. However, in the year 2021, Dream seems to be diverting his attention to an avenue that we did not see coming–music. On February 4, 2021, Dream released his debut single, titled “Roadtrip” featuring another American singer PmBata.

Dream gained massive popularity online with his Minecraft speedrun videos and thereafter his Minecraft Manhunt series. He is also better known for his parkour skills in the Minecraft game. His main YouTube channel has over 17 million subscribers, and his other accounts collectively have over 5.5 million subscribers. Dream’s debut song was released on a brand new YouTube channel named ‘Dream Music.’

“Roadtrip” narrates the story of life–common to all of us. Everybody changes and everything changes. People who were closest to us could become strangers within days. Dream could be referencing an ex-girlfriend from when he was younger and lesser-known around the world, or simply a close friend.

“Roadtrip” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

On January 8, 2021, Dream released a rather lengthy note about his ex-girlfriend. According to this note, she was a big part of Dream starting off YouTube and even creating his iconic logo. Although they have had a short-lived loving and caring relationship, things have not gone very smoothly after their fallout. She has been slandering Dream both publicly and privately. However, Dream keeps an open mind about all of this and tries to navigate the rough waters. On top of his personal struggles, he was recently accused of cheating in one of his Minecraft speedrun records.

So, when Dream sings about “People change like the tides in the ocean” in “Roadtrip,” he could very well be singing about his ex-girlfriend from three years back. Dream is 21-years-old by the time of the release of this song in 2021. And the math adds up as the lyrics state in the song; “In that past life we lived at eighteen.”

Throughout the song, Dream takes a ride in an old van, aimlessly, down the roads. He reminisces back to the days when there was someone special sitting next to him in the van. And they were good times. They had something special for the short time period they were together.

Three years later, it almost feels like those memories are from a past life altogether. Those memories are a good trip down memory lane, just as much as the one, he is taking in his van right now!

PmBata’s verse in the song has a very similar theme to that of Dream’s. He, too, shares an experience with a close partner who is not there with him anymore. He admits that she jumps into his memories every once in a while. Fortunately, they are happy memories.

Although Dream’s skills in Minecraft are nothing relatable to us common folks, his personal experiences sung in “Roadtrip” would be very relatable to a lot of us.

Do you think there will be a music video for “Roadtrip” with Dream featured in it? He has yet to reveal his face, despite his massive online presence. What do you think?

  1. And also Dream said about one time he was accidentally going 40 over the speed limit and ran a red light, and that ties in with the song :))

  2. i agree, seing as they moved in with eachother, he could have done like a 10 hr drive to pick her up and a 10 hr drive home with her so “highway paved with memories”

    1. you do know it’s “Twenty hours in an old van up the east coast through the cold wind, drove twenty hours by the ocean, up the east coast, what a road trip”. Also, the highway just doesn’t sound good y’know. He said “intersate” because he drove through many states to get to his ex-girlfriend. Maybe try listening to the song again. You’ll understand it better.
