Taylor Swift – Love Story (Taylor’s Version) | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

The year 2021 will be one of the biggest nostalgic trips for Taylor Swift’s fans and as the superstar begins to revisit her earliest albums. And by revisiting we mean re-record and re-release: a brand new Taylor’s Version of everything that was. The very first release from this massive effort is her infamous track “Love Story” renamed “Love Story (Taylor’s Version).”

Taylor Swift has begun to re-record and re-release her first six albums due to an ongoing conflict between Taylor and her first record label Big Machine Records. Big Machine owns the masters for the first six albums Taylor released under the label and refused to sell them when Taylor offered to buy them. The first project to be re-released is Taylor’s 2008 album ‘Fearless’ as ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ on April 9, 2021. However, the fans are getting the first single off the album, her classic, “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” tonight, February 12, 2021.

“Love Story” was written by Taylor Swift when she was 17 years old when her parents disapproved of a relationship she was having back then. Heartbroken Taylor Swift put her sadness into a song and this masterpiece was born. The song was produced by Nathan Chapman and it came out as a single off of her second studio album ‘Fearless’ released on September 12, 2008.

Returning from a massive year, releasing two back-to-back albums titled ‘folklore‘ and ‘evermore,’ Taylor Swift has had a busy year in 2020. And the best is yet to come.

Inspiration Behind “Love Story” by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift shared what inspired her to compose “Love Story” with Los Angeles Times.

“I was going through a situation like that where I could relate. I used to be in high school where you see [a boyfriend] every day. Then I was in a situation where it wasn’t so easy for me, and I wrote this song because I could relate to the whole Romeo and Juliet thing. I was really inspired by that story. Except for the ending. I feel like they had such promise and they were so crazy for each other. And if that had just gone a little bit differently, it could have been the best love story ever told. And it is one of the best love stories ever told, but it’s a tragedy. I thought, why can’t you… make it a happy ending and put a key change in the song and turn it into a marriage proposal?”

“Love Story” by Taylor Swift captures the essence of the infamous play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare. Taylor pictures herself as Juliet who waits for her lover to come sweep her off her feet. Romeo has her enchanted but has trouble closing the deal. Both Taylor and this guy have to deal with the village folk and their own parents being not-so-onboard with their relationship. So, they sneak out at night to meet each other.

While ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a tragic play, “Love Story” by Taylor Swift has a happy ending. The guy gets the consent of her parents and falls to his knees and proposes to Taylor!

For both of the lovers in the song, it’s a love story with a happy ending–something Taylor Swift would have envisioned for herself back in the day when she penned these words. Fast-forward to 2021, we know her love life has been furthest from what this song narrates. But she has finally found her Romeo (it seems). And we have nothing but blessings for her!
