“Mask” is a brand new single by YouTuber-turned-musician Dream. He released his debut single “Roadtrip” in February 2021, signaling his interest in music. In both songs, Dream opens up about her personal life, which he has rarely done in her YouTube career.
Dream is the faceless Minecraft YouTuber that everyone knows. Since early 2020, Dream has grown his YouTube presence massively in a short span of time. However, so far, he has not done a face reveal and he stays hidden behind a mask. The only time fans got close to seeing his face was when he collaborated with Mr Beast for what seemed like a face reveal which turned out to be a jebait. His mask is a big part of his personality now.
In Dream’s personal Twitter account, he explained the meaning behind the lyrics; “the song is about my personal experience when I was younger with depression and fighting to overcome it, but these lyrics are about ADHD.”

“Mask” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, Dream sings about how he fought with feelings of anxiety and depression all by himself. It was not as if anyone around him could understand how he felt. He had no excuses. Nothing triggered these experiences in his life. They just occur. So, he kept all to himself, bottled everything up. All this probably lead him to hide his true identity behind a mask when he first started his YouTube career. However, even when he built a massive fan base of tens of millions around him, he still feels the necessity to mask his true identity.
The now infamous mask has a smiley face on it because Dream does not want to show his true emotions to the public. Behind the veil he could be smiling or crying.
Verse 2
In the second verse, Dream talks about being insecure of who he is. He would rather stay in his room and play Minecraft with his online friends. It takes his mind away from what’s really bothering him. It also takes away the need to go outside and socialize, which we can all relate to.
Dream gets more candid when he sings that he needs help and he is failing classes. This is due to ADHD that he confessed to being down with.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, or excessive activity and impulsivity, which are otherwise not appropriate for a person’s age. This condition makes it extremely hard for a person to concentrate on anything for even a short period of time. Your mind has a mind of its own and there are no reins.
Dream has opened up about the mental struggles he has gone through in random streams he does on Twitch. No matter how successful you are at something, nobody is immune to their own demons.

This is my son whom we lost to mystery and winding road of depression. Dream’s lyrics are spot on in describing what Kevan went through. Dream is soooo not alone except when it comes to getting the help he so deserately needs.
