Nicki Minaj – Majesty Ft. Eminem & Labrinth (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

Nicki Minaj unites with Eminem and Labrinth on her new song “Majesty” from her 2018 album ‘Queen.’ The new album was dropped a week early, today (12/08), after announcing the official release date earlier on her social media accounts. The new track is funky and catchy and both Nicki and Eminem are doing raps while Labrinth soothes us with the chorus.

“Majesty” is Nicki Minaj’s second collaboration with Eminem, after “Roman’s Revenge.” After sparking rumors that “wifey” Nicki and Eminem are dating, we now begin to think all that buzz was about this collaboration for her new album.

While the overall beat of “Majesty” is calmer, Eminem goes into a ballistic mode in his rap verse. It is calculated that Eminem raps at 10.4 syllables per second in “Majesty,” whereas, the ‘supersonic’ verse in “Rap God” swept at 9.6 syllables per second. It makes this song Eminem’s fastest rap ever.

It feels as if Eminem stole the spotlight off of Nicki Minaj on this track. Eminem goes so far as to spark more dating rumors by calling Nicki and himself ‘the queen and her husband.’ For Nicki, the entire album ‘Queen’ seems as an attempt to solidify her position as the queen of rap and hip-hop game. She might have been threatened by the overnight success of Cardi B.

Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Majesty”

Chorus

The chorus of the song is done by Labrinth and is a literal worship to the queen-Nicki Minaj. These lyrics have the singer offering his service to the queen and obeying all her commands. Looking at the artwork for the album, there is little wonder that anybody would be a ‘sucker’ for her.

Verse 1

Nicki Minaj enters the scene now.

Nicki speaks about how she has made it to the top of the hip-hop game now. She references the Gulfstream V-a luxury jet that can only be owned by the wealthiest people. Also, besides her music, she also mentions her brand deals, especially with MAC Cosmetics. Nicki also brings up the Mercedes Benz deal she signed in April this year.

The lyric on buying blogs could be a reference to the social media scandal revolving around Wanna Thompson and her public scrutiny of Nicki Minaj.

Verse 2

In the second verse of “Majesty,” Nicki addresses her competition. The self-appointed queen, speaks about making her competition run away, smoking ’em and calls them sissies.

Nicki also talks about her curvaceous body comparing it to ‘thick’ peanut butter. The artwork of ‘Queen’ album is also an ado to this. ‘Skippy’ is one of the most famous peanut butter brands in the USA.

Nicki Tweeted these lines after dropping the album today.

Post-chorus

Eminem talks about his secret love affairs in these lyrics of “Majesty.” Em used the term “wifey” to fuel Em and Nicki dating rumors during his Europe tour earlier this year. He goes on to talk about his side-girl and getting it on with her, and let the worries of tomorrow be for tomorrow.

Em throws a hand to his blonde-hair days mostly as Slim Shady.

Verse 3

The most awaited guy takes on the stage. Eminem starts off with a pat on his back for being sober, ever since he made a recovery from drug abuse. Em shared a commemorative token for being 10 years sober in April this year.

Em then goes onto speak about the bitter state of rap and hip-hop is in today. The new school of rappers and their fans are really blinded by what’s good and what’s not. Eminem brings in a ton of metaphors to compare the new rappers vs old school rappers. He diagnoses the new school of rap with ‘tonsils,’ ‘swollen nodes’ and even ‘pneumonia.’ He prescribes a doctor to cure all these sicknesses. Wonder if he is referring to his old pal and mentor Dr. Dre.

In the fastest bit of “Majestic,” Eminem speaks about his drug usage and how he has been clean of it. He swears to himself that he will never go back to it again, and use that energy to murder his pen. Fingers crossed for a new album! In the next few lines, Em promises that we have not seen his ‘highest’ level of performance yet. And he subtly asks his competition to pick another game that’s not hip-hop or rap. Em also warns not to drag him or Nicki Minaj into other’s subject of critic or hate, because such people will feel the wrath of the Rap God + his majesty combined. He is the majesty of the game now!

Verse 4

Nicki Minaj gets straight with her haters calling them ‘piggybackers.’ Piggyback riders are people who depend on another. Nicki has had it with these loud mouth yappers who have come to limelight because of her and now are trying to outdo her.

“Majesty” is nothing short of pure musical ecstasy. Nicki Minaj and Eminem shine on their individual verses, while Labrinth does a perfectly vocalized chorus.
