Iggy Azalea Boasts Her Journey in “Started” Single and Video (Lyrics Review)
Returning from her highly successful first single “Sally Walker,” Iggy Azalea is back with a brand new single and music video. And little did we know that we were already spoiled of the chorus of “Started” single months before.
Iggy Azalea did announce on Twitter that she might drop a snippet of the second song “Started” (untitled back then), when “Sally Walker” was being released in March 2019. “Sally Walker” video did end bizarrely, quickly cutting off to a whole different song, but with the same cast of “Sally Walker.”
The new single “Started” is part of her upcoming sophomore studio album ‘In My Defense’ due in 2019. This song has clearly drawn inspiration from Drake’s hit single “Started From The Bottom.” Both songs stand as compliments to making it big being ordinary people from different parts of the world.
The music video for “Started” released along with the single. Directed by Colin Tilley, the music video shows Iggy Azalea marrying a grandpa on the verge of his death bed. The video does not try, in the least, to hide the fact that Iggy did it for money. “Whatever it takes” is the underlying theme of this song and video.

The lyrics to the song boast about how Iggy made it to one of the biggest stars in the world, migrating to the USA from Australia at the age of 15. When you pursue your dreams, many will start hating you. But if you just keep at it and when you succeed, everybody would want to be like you!
Despite the fact that Iggy keeps on trying to murder her newlywed, possibly 80-year-old ‘sugar daddy,’ she looks flawless throughout the music video, changing into several sexy attire.
Iggy Name Drops Eminem?
One lyric that he sparked some controversy is when Iggy name drops Eminem’s alter-ego ‘Slim Shady.’ In the second verse of “Started,” Iggy raps “I’m just tryna get them Ms and I ain’t talkin’ Slim Shady.” Despite many fans trying to find fault or diss in this line, we believe its just another mention of Eminem on a song. Marshall Mather’s stage name ‘Eminem’ is inspired by the candy ‘M&Ms’ which form the word ‘Eminem.’ Hence, the reference to Slim Shady which is Eminem’s alter-ego in most of his early career.
On Twitter, Iggy confirmed that “M’s” stand for “millions” of dollars–which goes in perfect unison with the theme of the song. She also mentioned that she is not looking to start feuds with anyone; she is just here to make some millions and mind her own business!
Iggy Azalea did confirm that she will be releasing her new album ‘In My Defense’ next as a response to a fan on Twitter.
