Ariana Grande & Social House – Boyfriend (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

Ariana Grande joins the vocal duo Social House for their brand new single “Boyfriend” released on August 2, 2019. However, this is not the first time these three artists have worked together.

Social House had a hand in producing two of the biggest hits by Ariana Grande, namely; “7 rings” and “thank u, next” from her 2019 album. This time around, Ariana Grande joins in vocals and visuals for Social House’s extended play ‘Everything Changed’ to be released soon.

Ariana Grande went on to Tweet about the song upon the release; “well, i feel like this song captures a common theme in the lives of so many people i know! people want to feel love but don’t want to define their relationship & have trouble fully committing or trusting or allowing themselves to fully love someone. even tho they want to.”

Watch the music video below.

The music video for “Boyfriend” features Ariana Grande and Social House as distant and unspoken partners. They explicitly mention that they are not a couple, but also admit that they do not want each other dating other people. Paralleling this theme, the music video shows Ariana Grande getting psychotic over her crush mingling with other girls at a party. In the end, they end up destroying a bathroom with their passion while making out.

The music video director for “7 rings,” Hannah Lux Davis had the honours of directing this music video as well.
