Zayn – River Road | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“River Road” is the eleventh and final track on Zayn’s 2021 album ‘Nobody Is Listening.’ The song is about the unfulfilled feeling in a relationship and gravitating towards the right one.

Zayn released his third studio album, titled ‘Nobody Is Listening,’ on January 15, 2021, after releasing two singles “Better” and “Vibez.” This is Zayn’s follow-up project to his 2018 album ‘Icarus Falls.’

The title of the song is a reference to the pain that the singer endures in the wrong relationships. The tears that he shed through these relationships will form the path towards the right one!

“River Road” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

In the song, Zayn confronts his lover about their relationship status. He tells her that this relationship seems to feel like its going stale. He calls her his ‘lover’ just out of necessity. Everytime he mutters these words, a part of him dies inside and he has to pour down a glass of alcohol to digest these feelings.

Zayn says that this relationship does not feel like a solo journey right now. It absolutely feels like two people on a journey on their own.

Don’t you ever hope for something else?

The singer is already looking forward–for better days. And he will not be having the same partner in this new futue.

Zayn says that he is tired of falling in and out of love so many times. He wants to experience the feeling of floating with the right person–‘floating in love’ is the way to go. When you float, three is a whole universe above you to explore. The ceiling in your room should not be the limit to your floating potential. You need the right person by you to explore the universe above you.

Again, this song could be a tribute to his current partner Gigi Hadid.
