The Chainsmokers – Everybody Hates Me (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

The Chainsmokers are known for coming up with brand new and catchy music every once in a while. “Closer,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Paris” and “Something Just Like This” all seemed like spontaneous track, but they performed very well commercially. This time around, we get a new song sung by Andrew Taggart himself. “Everybody Hates Me” was released on March 17, 2018, and has a more ominous appeal than their other musical works. But, somehow they manage to turn it around with upbeat and hyped up EDM beats.

“Everybody Hates Me” does not appear in an official album as of yet. But we can expect it to be a single off of an upcoming album. The song is written by Emily Warren and Andrew Taggart.

Even the single cover has a dark and ominous look to it (check the cover photo of the article), which is also the backdrop for the audio release on YouTube.

The song has a little deeper meaning than what it leads on to say. Much like “rockstar” by Post Malone, are The Chainsmokers feeling the weight of stardom? Their last two releases “Sick Boy” and “You Owe Me” had a similar theme.

Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Everybody Hates Me”

Verse 1 goes on to say how lonely they feel despite the massive popularity they have gained in the industry. They have a fair share of fans, and people who enjoy their music. But, at the end of the day, they are just fans and people. The ones who are supposed to love them? Well, they cheated on them.

The chorus of “Everybody Hates Me” is a sullen repetition of the title of the song. The Chainsmokers are a duo who specialize in EDM and being hated at a club is the utmost disrespect they could receive. Even though, they have gained some popularity, the critics have not taken kindly to them and their music. They have been titled the ‘Nickleback of EDM,’ which we believe is a very unfitting description. And just FYI, Nickleback was great!

Verse 2 says that The Chainsmokers duo are of the new age-a product of the Internet and tech-savvy generation. Is he considering himself to be part of a degenerated generation? Because the voices in his head are saying things against what he knows and does.

At the end of it all, The Chainsmokers just want to grab a drink with their friends and have a downtime without getting hassled by everybody else. This seems like too much to be asked by a celebrity these days.

And I’m not trying to be like “poor me,” I made it

Make note that The Chainsmokers aren’t trying to pose as the victims here. He clearly says that he is not trying to win sympathy and he is not trying to be anything different from what they are now. They did make it in the industry. But many artists who did make it in the industry have left the industry straight to graves.

We think “Everybody Hates Me” could be quite a hit by the duo artists. We would like to know your opinions on the song and the lyrics. If you have any thoughts on the song, do write them down in the comments below.
