“…it’s about being out of a relationship that really isn’t good for you but you can’t help but wanting it back anyways or wanting the person back…”
Hence, our interpretation that this song is a love song.

Zara Larsson sings about being desperately in love with a guy who cannot give her back the same love. It kills her, it ruins her, but she prefers being ruined over not having him at all.
Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Ruin My Life”
Verse 1
The song happens after a relationship has come to an end. It seems as though Zara Larsson herself has walked out of the relationship for some reason. A hint of a reason could be the guy pushing her ‘close to the edge’ which is not necessarily a good thing always.
Pre-chorus
Zara says their relationship was ‘fire,’ in a good way. But she also goes on to say that she could not take the heat at some point. Maybe, the relationship was too good and eccentric for her to handle.
Now she has left him and she is freezing in the cold. She uses two exact opposites to draw the contrasting feelings of being in love and out of love. Picturesque!
Chorus
Now Larsson is regretting everything she has done to end the relationship. She is regressing the lost love so hard, that she is ready to tolerate all his mistakes. Even if he makes every step wrong, she says she will correct them for him.
The relationship itself seems to have been quite toxic on Zara. However, she prefers her life being ruined over not being in that kind of fiery love. She knows her life would not be what she wants if she commits to this relationship with him again. But she is ready to gamble it all away for some love.
Verse 2
Zara Larsson imagines that the guy must be missing her too in “Ruin My Life” single. Or at least she wishes that he does.
The Bridge of the song gives the same idea.
“Ruin My Life” is definitely a catchy track with some good vocal work by Zara Larsson. We only wish for a music video for this track with Ms Larsson in it.
