Lil Peep – 16 Lines (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

“16 Lines” is the sixth track on the late rapper-Lil Peep’s posthumous album ‘Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2’ released on November 9, 2018, almost after a year since rapper’s passing.

Lil Peep’s drug abuse finally caught up with him, when the rapper overdosed of an apparent mix of Fentanyl and Xanax. The coroner’s report informed that “mixing these two drugs can result in fatal side effects, as well as respiratory issues and coma.”

However, Lil Peep’s camp continued to release new music since the rapper’s death. Most notably the collaboration with late rapper XXXTentacion on “Falling Down” caught all the fans by surprise and grief. X passed away due to a fatal shooting in Florida in April 2018. Other songs to be released from ‘Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2’ album wereSunlight on Your Skin” and “Life Is Beautiful,” the latter being a sarcastic twist on the title.

The title of the song “16 Lines” is a double entendre. The rapper speaks about doing 16 lines of cocaine and how that would make him feel great. However, it is noteworthy that the song’s chorus is also 16 lines. In that context, even music makes him feel great.

The music video has been shot in April 2017 in New York.

The song captures Lil Peep’s emotions on relationships. He already knows that life isn’t meant to be a bed of roses, hence he questions “I wonder who you’ll f*ck when I die.”

Whichever the relationship Lil Peep relates this song to, has been quite toxic. She was his anchor, but she was his iceberg as well. She gave him so much strength, and she broke him inside. So he questions her loyalty, and he asks if she would bother if he tried to keep this relationship going. The singer also believes that her tears are fake or useless.

Lil Peep was 21-years-old when he passed away in 2017. In the song, he says he went blind ten years ago. We believe he is talking about falling in love. He is possibly referring to his parent’s divorce when he raps that he was alone since age 9.

A rather unexpected and abrupt insight of Lil Peep’s reflection into his past relationships is seen through “16 Lines” song. Based on the outlook of these lyrics, one might argue that drugs were his outlet (which we never condone under no circumstance). But you never know someone’s life until you live theirs.
